Lindfield House
Once upon a time Auckland Park was a romantic, country getaway where men on horseback came to rest their weary heads after a long week in a makeshift mining camp up the road – now Joburg city.
According to long-time resident and historian Katherine Love, back in the early 1900s this was country living in the city and many considered Auckland Park a delightful weekend hideout.
Love has lived in her charming home for the past 43 years, a 22-room treasure trove,
“Linfield Victorian House Museum”.
Dressed up like a Victorian parlour maid, Love will guide you through the music room (filled with beautiful old pianos, organs, a violin and a cello), dining rooms, a ladies drawing room, pantries, a bathroom,
a library (wall to wall with exquisite old books) and a children’s wing with a bedroom, nurse’s room,
playroom and children’s dining room.
Katherine Love tells a fascinating story about Auckland Park, the miners, the properties and the architecture, the Horsetracks and the Boating Lake. . .

Tells the story of the survival of South Africa's Indian traders under the most hostile business conditions. Removed in the mid 1970’s under duress from Pageview's 14th street,
nicknamed the “petticoat lane” of south Africa.
These traders with their flair for merchandising began a rearguard action to
